About me

Hello. I’m Otto Sommerhalder, a Doberman breeder, with a passion for pets in general, and I would like to invite you to read my blog. The posts I will include here will be Doberman-centric, because they are my favorite breed of dogs, and also because I know how to raise them, but from time to time I will talk about taking care of other pets.

Why do I love Dobermans? I am of German descent, and my family came to the US in the 1990s. My folks have always cared for dogs, so you can say that I have this passion passed to me by my parents. Always surrounded by dogs, I found they are outstanding animals and, if you care for them right, they will love you back.

Some people shy away from the idea of getting a Doberman because these dogs are so full of energy and very demanding. But I think it is even more rewarding to take care of a breed that challenges you and offers you a rewarding experience as a pet owner.

Dobermans need love and proper training, and they also count a great deal on your patience, so make sure you have what it takes to take care of such animals. I want to tell you a little secret, though; Dobermans are not that difficult to train.

They are very social, and that means they thrive on your attention. So, to motivate your dog to do all the right things you want it to, just shower it with affection when it follows orders, and give it the cold shoulder when it is naughty. You will be amazed to discover what fast learners they can be.

It is essential to keep in mind that these are large dogs. Don’t let your puppy get away with something that can quickly become a problem when it reaches adulthood. For instance, don’t allow your little Doberman to get used to biting your feet, as this can be a huge issue with an adult Doberman that has such a bad habit.

I can spend hours and hours talking about Dobermans, but I don’t want to make this post longer than it should be. So, for now, I am just going to extend an invitation for you to visit my blog from time to time, and learn more about this fascinating breed.

I will also have some posts on caring for other pets, especially hamsters, which are my sister’s specialty, as she loves them very much. I hope you have the same love for animals like my sister and me and that you will join us here, for learning new information on pet care.
